Roy and Doreen taught us to dance in 1989 and so in a sense the enjoyment we've had dancing in the years since is down to them. We'll miss you Roy. RIP.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Roy, but I have enjoyed his dances for many years. Yesterday evening (September 07,2007) the New Orleans RSCDS Class danced many of Roy's dances in a tribute to him. Dance on Roy, dance on!!

We got to know Roy through his dances, as most others have done. But we also have very happy memories of a visit to Leeds, about ten or twelve years ago when we were staying with friends: it happened to be a dancing night, so we made contact and went along. We were all made most welcome, as always, and were able to meet, greet and say thank you in person for Roy's wonderful contribution to dancing.

Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Roy I have often used his dances in class here in New Orleans. The Barmkin is a favorite of one of our class members and we enjoyed several dances last evening as a tribute. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I never knew or met Roy Goldring personally, but I have made great use of his Book "24 Graded and Social Dances" when teaching at the Lochiel SCD CLub in Hamilton, New Zealand. I admired the way the dances were put together so that each dance had a unique character and interest, but could still be managed by dancers at the elementary and Intermediate level.

I had the great pleasure of meeting Roy and Doreen on two occasions on visits to Leeds and the even greater pleasure of dancing 'Tribute to the Borders' with Roy. His dances have always been special favourites of our club and he very generously gave us a dance called 'The Innes Dancers Reel'. It has been on our dance programme every year since and we will dance it in his memory on Monday.

I knew Roy's name and enjoyed his dances many years before moving to Yorkshire on retirement ten years ago. While househunting I heard of a charity dance in Otley and went along to the friendliest of welcomes from Roy and Doreen. So I am indebted to Roy not only for his wonderful dances but for introducing me to the Yorkshire dancing scene to which he gave so much support and encouragement.

We started dancing in 1987 at a beginners class with Roy and Doreen. It is safe to say that without their support and encouragement neither of us would be dancing now. Roy's dances are a pleasure to dance because they always flow so well - I have particularly enjoyed being at classes where he tried out new ideas.

We will miss Roy's cheery personality and friendship every bit as much as his infectious enthusiasm for Scottish Dance Music. It was a privilege and pleasure to work with him. We send our condolences to Doreen and the family.

On Sept 16th, our little dance group in Austin, the SCDA, paid tribute to Roy and celebrated his life by having an evening devoted to his dances. His dances are such fun as they flow so well. We send our condolences to Doreen and all his friends in the Leeds Branch. Roy's will be missed, but his legacy to the world lives on.

Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada
Thank you Leeds Branch for this wonderful tribute to Roy Goldring. It was a shock for us here in Canada to hear of his passing. Over the years we have danced and enjoyed many of his dances and I was going to mention a few of our favourites, but on looking over the list I realized that there are far too many, from the lovely selection of dances from the "Scotia Suite" to the very popular "The Barmkin". The Nanaimo Scottish Country Dancers would like to send condolences to Roy's family and all his friends who will miss him greatly. I am including at least one dance a week, in my class programmes, of Roy's dances and this week the Basic class will be doing "The Marklands" and "The Highland Rambler". I was thinking that when Roy got to that special place how nice it wold be if he was happily greeted by all the other Scottish Country Dancers up there who would say, "That's great, Roy's here, now we have enough for another set". Thank you, Roy.

I danced with Roy and Doreen for well over 20 years and, although not recently, I still feel his loss. Having often been involved in trying out his ideas for new dances, Roy's dances will always be amongst my top favourites. His name is synonymous with scottish country dancing, and his memory will go on and on.
